Langliffe Pot certainly makes big part of the history of the discoveries in the Dales. The stories of ULSA made me always to come and to see this cave which nowadays faces problems with access permission.
We managed to build a relatively strong team with Jason M and Alex R who have already been to Boireau chamber. We meet in Kettlewell early in the morning and after a few minutes we start walking uphill. The walk to the entrance takes about 1/2 hour or even more...soon we leave behind some leisurely hikers. With a bright sky we have no issues to find Oddmire entrance which we choose as our way to the system.
Alex starts rigging and we follow him to the bottom of 2nd pitch where we pack our SRT gears and start our 1/2 crawl through the entrance series. It is certainly not a nice place to be in wet weather but at least you know that you are safe on the other side. Unlike in Mossdale. After the entrance crawl we pass the connection with Langcliffe Pot entrance and enter Stride Passage. This part of the cave offers quite nice caving. Just before Boireau chamber we have to cross couple of squeezes, especially the last one already requires some effort. Once in Boireau chamber, Alex descends through the boulder choke to attack the crux of the trip. However, it is blocked by a few boulders and it seems that we have to call it a day here.
But Jason is a master. We attach a rope around his waist and he descends head-first to the passage which is blocked. Once he put a sling around the boulder we pull him out and we repeat this procedure twice more. After a bit of struggle Emma, Alex and Jason disappear in the squeeze with Jason saying: Don't push it too much Ales, it's not a nice place to get stuck. Right. Now I'm here on my own and I would like to catch them up. I play with the squeeze for about 20 minutes and I do manage to pass it but I'm quite worried to get fully into it without anyone around me...and especially I'm scarred about the way out. Anyway, after half an hour Alex turns up soon followed by Jason and Emma. Alex makes the exit looking epic but I hope that once you have the recipe how to get out, it could be less epic. Guys managed to get to Nemesis boulder choke. According to Emma it's quite intimidating and due to the uncertain weather forecast on the surface they decided to turn around. I don't mind really, at least I don't have to wait for too long.
The way out goes quite fast apart from the entrance series which seems to be endless. Once I start prusikking up and derigging, Jason and Emma appear behind me. Apparently they missed a turn and carried on for a fair bit through the mastercave. The weather on the surface is still nice so the walk back to the car is quite nice. Nobody can say 'no' to a pint in the pub in Kettlewell.
Party: Jason, Emma, Ales and Alex R
Trip time: 6hrs
